Day thirteen
Our stay at the dodgy Airbnb that wasn’t that dodgy went well. Because it was warm al the windows remained opened and I think there could well have been some unpleasant smells otherwise. But it worked for us.
Fairly early start for us. I soon realised however that my back was sore, I think from carrying my bike up from the cellar where we stayed in Évreux. It remained sore all day and just made me miserable all day and not very talkative. Ever time we stopped I tried a new stretch pose but nothing really seemed to ease it. So annoying.
We stayed right on a main road and that road took us all the way to Lisiuex. This is where we originally wanted to stay but there was no accommodation. We stopped to buy baguettes, croissants, pain ou chocolates and then had a coffee stops. Our coffee stops have varied so much in price, most expensive of course in Paris and cheapest was the other day in the middle of no where where there were some friendly (ish) dogs, a difference of around €10 from cheapest to most expensive.
The rest of the cycle was a bit of a blur as I was just uncomfortable. I remember getting cross that we couldn’t find somewhere to have lunch, Jon rode on a bit after deciding that sitting on the steps of a Church were the gardener was cutting the grass and that was the only reason that the gate was open was not a good plan. We had a curbside picnic lunch.
We have passed a lot more cyclists today, groups mainly.
On entering Ouistreham we stopped for a coffee. Zak and Maisey got a huge Oriangina. There are lots of cycle paths so lots of cyclists. We saw the Pegasus Bridge open, very strange as the whole thing opens to nearly 90degrees. On googling, the Pegasus Bridge is a reconstructed WW2 bridge and an iconic location of the liberation efforts of the British.

Just three miles cycle and our host met us. The pictures of this Airbnb looked like the accommodation was going to be really small but it is in fact quiet big. Out bikes are in a bike store for all the flats and seem secure enough.
Oven pizzas for tea. After tea we walked to the beach and got some much wanted (from Z and M) churros. €5 for a huge bag of them and probably the nicest ones we’ve ever had.

We’ve done it. I’ve not added up all the miles yet and we have the trip home after the ferry on Friday to cycle as well.
