Half Term Training

So it’s half term. No work, no school and Jon away in France all week. The Kids and I (Lara) are aiming to do a training ride every other day. The first one however didn’t go so great!

After a rainy morning we set off, warning the kids that roads may be slippy! Shortly after leaving home our first incident happened. We were on the road about to turn right, with me at the front followed by Maisey and then Zak. I heard something happen behind me, so turned around to see Zak and Maisey lying on the tarmac with cars stopped behind them. I later discovered that when Maisey had started to brake, her back wheel skidded causing her to fall off (quiet gracefully I think) and forcing Zak to stop suddenly which ended in his bike hit him hard in the buttocks.

Having checked that Maisey was okay we set off again but Zak asked us to stop a moment to recover. He had gone a little white and was shaking!!! All was good again after a few minutes recovery though.

A Good few miles later Zak stopped again as his bike is feeling “odd” – yay, a puncture! As Jon wasn’t with us we didn’t have a puncture repair kit. I just didn’t think to pack one (and I’m not sure I could remember how to repair one anyway). Amazingly we were only a few minutes walk away from Mike Vaughan Cycles – a great cycle shop – who fitted a new inner tube and we were soon all ready to go again!

And that was 2 days ago. We’re off on another ride today and I’m hoping this one will be less eventful!

Also this week I need to sit down and make a proper kit list of what we need to take on our bike ride through France. There’s so much to think about!!
